On October 1 and 2, 2020, L’Arche members around the world joined the first ever online celebration “L’Arche Light Festival”.
Created as a way for communities in far flung corners of the world to connect, the virtual festival was an opportunity to reflect together, celebrate the diversity and unity of the federation and have some fun despite the restrictions so many of us are living with.
At one point over 340 screens joined in. Stacy Cates-Carney, Vice International Leader says: “It created a virtual space; to remember, to take time to celebrate our unity in mission and to dream of a future in which we each do our part to build community and a more human society. It was wonderful to spend time together and to see so many old friends and new friends on the other side of the world.” Thanks to the wonders of the software, Zoom (and three simultaneous translation channels), participants with and without learning disabilities from 38 countries took part.
Highlights included art, singing and dance lessons from communities in Japan, Ukraine, Mexico, Burkina Faso, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Brazil, Kenya, Syria, Egypt, and Australia.
