As a community of people with and without an intellectual disability, L’Arche stands against discrimination. L’Arche stands with the billion individuals across the world spotlighted by the United Nations on December 3, the International Day of People with Disabilities. But while anti-discrimination laws are vital, real inclusion is a question of personal attitude. It is about opening an inner door, the door of friendship. For there is simply no substitute for human warmth. Simply because we stand up for our friends. And that’s a two-way thing: if a friend is going through a hard time, we are there for them. And when our turn comes, we can count on them to be there for us. In L’Arche, we are proud to be part of the world-wide campaign to live the highs and lows of life together.
