Job opportunity: Safeguarding Officer

Job description

L’Arche International is looking for a Safeguarding Officer who specializes in the development of safeguarding policies: prevention, implementation, reporting and incident response. The successful candidate will work with the Executive Director, the International Delegate Team and the Safeguarding Committee to lead the development and implementation of L’arche International’s Safeguarding strategy across the federation. They will be responsible for ensuring that effective prevention and response protocols have been set up to meet safeguarding requirements in different parts of the federation, to prevent and mitigate SFG risks and promote a positive culture of protecting people.

Experience ans skills

  • At least 3 years’ experience in safeguarding in an international context. Proven experience with a participatory approach to bring about change.
  • Ability to support the implementation of safeguarding policies with a goal to make cultural change.
  • Pragmatism and a sense of the field to ensure that policies and protocols are adapted to local contexts and implemented.
  • Experience in safeguarding people at risk (e.g., particularly the intellectually disabled).
  • Excellent communicator, facilitator, with strong analytical skills .
  • Highly developed cultural sensitivity Ability to provide remote support and establish supportive relationships/networks.
  • Awareness of the impact of safeguarding standards in different countries.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English. French is an asset.
  • Willingness to travel nationally and internationally, as required.

Specific tasks

  • Create a “tool box” comprising of training materials and resources and establish a safeguarding network in liaison with the safeguarding leads in L’arche International’s established countries (France, UK, USA and Canada) as well also with other countries and communities in the Federation.
  • Provide operational support to federation members to create safeguarding policies and procedures.
  • In consultation with the safeguarding committee, support the implementation of safeguarding by sharing tools and building capacity (training, coaching, mentoring).
  • Support the development of a safeguarding culture in collaboration with key players and safeguarding leads in the federation, countries and communities.
  • Develop a directory of safeguarding leads across the federation.
  • Play an operational role in annual reporting on safeguarding – As required: provide operational support to the “I- report” unit.

  • Working arrangements: Balance between working remotely and working in the office. Full-time remote working is possible.
  • Travel requirements: Around 30% of trips will be international.
