L’Arche needs you!

Join a community with a mission to build a more inclusive world

All over the world, L’Arche communities are open and excited about welcoming kind and enthusiastic people who come choosing to share their daily life for 6-12 months. International volunteers who come are not only helping to facilitate activities and support their housemates with daily tasks, but also they’re coming with the motivation to discover what makes the culture welcoming them so special. Volunteers are always housed and fed by the community welcoming them, and depending on the destination and the volunteer’s nationality there may be additional funding available.

We need volunteers who are willing to share their time and skills with our communities. Whatever your age, whether you have lots of time or little, whatever your life experience you’ll have fun and make a difference.

Wondering about live-in volunteering opportunities across the Federation?

You’ve come to the right place!

With L’Arche communities being all over the world, and with application processes varying from country to country, we know that it can be challenging for volunteer candidates to know where to begin!

Certain countries such as Canada, the USA, the UK, France and Australia have so many of their own communities that they recruit volunteers independently from L’Arche International. You’ll need to go to their own websites to apply to any of their communities. At L’Arche International, one of our missions is to support our communities without a national structure with the recruitment and the accompaniment of volunteers. So long story short, if you’re interested in knowing more about the opportunities that exist in Latin America, Africa, the Middle East, or Asia, you’ve come to the right place.

Thanks so much for your motivation to help us build a more inclusive world!

What kind of volunteering?

Board of directors

If you have experience in governance, organizational development, law, finance, HR, buildings, or disability find out more about joining a local or national board of directors.

Fundraising

Bring your know-how in fundraising, by reaching out to people and inviting them to support L’Arche locally or nationally or internationally.

Support a community

Bring your passion and expertise in nurturing individuals to grow personally, professionally and/ or spiritually by providing one-to-one support or in supporting a group in a home or a workshop near you.

Go abroad with L’Arche

Some communities around the world welcome assistants/volunteers internationally to live with, support and develop friendships with members with intellectual disabilities. Most make an initial commitment of one year in order to learn, grow, and to have an extraordinary life-changing experience.

What to expect?

A trustworthy channel to bring about your dream for a more human society.

The chance to collaborate with a wide variety of other partners in our shared mission. Typically, volunteers describe their involvement with L’Arche as: ‘inspiring’, ‘challenging’, ‘horizon-expanding’ and ‘fun.’

Opportunities to join in community activities such as celebrations and birthdays.

A clearly defined role as a volunteer, with built-in reviews, in dialogue with the local community or national office.

L’Arche attracts a –perhaps surprisingly – diverse range of people, faiths, philosophies and ‘seekers’; you can expect full respect for your own outlook on life as well as many openings to explore the rich spirituality of other members of L’Arche.
