is a worldwide organization of 154 communities where people with and without learning disabilities share life together and contribute to a more human society. L’Arche International federates all 38 L’Arche member countries on 5 continents and serves as a convener of unity for our common mission.

 

L’Arche Mymensingh
L’Arche Mymensingh in Bangladesh is an interfaith community with members from Muslim, Hindu and Christian tradition with the common aim to care for the members with a learning disability who have often experienced stigma and marginalization. The community is profoundly inspirational, demonstrating extraordinary commitment, beautiful talents and remarkable depth of relationships. One expression of their mission is to provide weekly home visits to families caring for children with a disability.
The community has 3 homes and 1 workshop where they produce and sell candles, embroidery and other products. They work hard to generate income through their work and fundraising activities both through the local and international network.

 

Position summary
The Federation directly supports and oversees communities not grouped together in a country. This support, oversight and guidance is provided through International Delegates. Under the supervision of the International Delegate for L’Arche in Asia and South Pacific, the International Envoy supports and supervises L’Arche Mymensingh.
The International Envoy carries the authority of the International Federation towards the community and local board. They ensure that the community lives the values of L’Arche in line with our Identity and Mission and promote the development of L’Arche’s presence, sustainability and growth in this country.
L’Arche Mymensingh is entering into a major transition phase with the current International Envoy leaving at the end of 2022. Two long-term staff members provide acting leadership since 2021.

 

Main responsibilities
1.    To accompany and assess the Community
2.    To ensure that the governance principles, policies and practices are in line with the Constitution of L’Arche International
3.    To promote the message of L’Arche in the country under his/her responsibility
4.    To ensure the commitment and membership of the community in the International Federation
5.    To prepare the future with projects
6.    To develop Human Resources
7.    To manage finances

  • Ability to transmit and communicate the mission
  • Cultural competence: ability to understand, communicate and effectively interact with people across cultures. Experience in the region or with Bengal culture would be a plus.
