The Project and the mission Inclu’R Africa Project
L’Arche International launched a new multi-country project in early 2024, co-financed by Agence Française de Développement. The overall objective of this project is to improve the quality of life, inclusion and resilience of children and young people with intellectual disabilities in Africa (Ivory Coast, Egypt, Kenya and Zimbabwe).
The three Specific Objectives of the program are as follows:
- Empowering children and young people with learning disabilities and their caregivers and encouraging their participation and that of their community in promoting their rights
- Enabling children and young people with intellectual disabilities to access the specific care they need to improve their day-to-day care and autonomy, responding specifically to the needs of each individual and their families/ caretakers
- Supporting the sustainability and empowerment of L’Arche communities working alongside people with intellectual disabilities in Africa.
The Project Manager:
- Ensures that the project is implemented on time and with the necessary quality, and that donor requirements are met
- Provides technical and methodological support to local project teams and facilitates the implementation of planning, reporting, and evaluation processes
- Contributes to the representation/communication role externally (with AFD and technical and financial partners), and internally at L’Arche International for the dissemination and capitalization of project achievements, in particular with L’Arche communities in Africa
Contract type and duration
The contract is a part time parental time replacement for at least six months (March to August 2025). If you have experience in Grant Writing, there is the possibility to apply to another role as a Grant Writer. You can find any information about the job offer on our website.
Workplace
Most of the time the project manager will be able to work remotely, however some trips will be necessary for the project:
- Field travel: 1 mission per year, on the African continent.
- One (1) meeting in Paris per year depending where the project manager lives
Expected qualifications and skills
- University degree in social sciences, international development or another relevant field
- Commitment to the values and principles expressed in the L’Arche Charter
- Excellent oral and written communication and writing skills in English, French is a plus. Excellent organizational skills, rigor, responsiveness, versatility and strategic planning
- Ability to supervise and manage administrative and financial matters
- Ability to work as part of a team in a multicultural environment and to collaborate with several stakeholders
- Analytical skills and ability to synthesize Independence, sense of initiative, ability to work remotely
- Diplomacy and discretion
Professional experience
- Proven experience in managing development projects with public funding (AFD, EU…)
- Field experience highly appreciated
- Experience of remote teamwork in a multicultural environment
