Mireya de Corrales

Mireya de Corrales, President of the Federation

Mireya de Corrales, married and a mother of four children, lives in Choluteca, Honduras. She teaches at the Catholic university in Choluteca and works as a lawyer for a bank. She was elected President of the Federation at the last General Assembly in Assisi, Italy in May 2005.

“Mireya is a person of the heart. She has a very sensitive approach to people. I have seen her working, I have seen her competence. I have seen her vision and her commitment and I am proud that she will be the president of the International Board.

I think that she is an asset to our Federation because she comes from a southern zone, because she is a woman and because of her own special qualities. The fourth reason is that I have seen her working with Jean-Christophe and Christine and I have a feeling that they will form a good team.

I am confident in knowing that L’Arche has taken a step that many other organisations have not dared to take. Roles and positions are often occupied by Europeans. Others don’t seem to have the right to express themselves. However, there are a lot of emerging voices and personalities in other countries. L’Arche has wonderful personalities in Europe, Africa and Latin America, so I am proud that Mireya has been nominated out of a pool of 37 candidates. However, I am not surprised. She is bilingual English and Spanish – maybe she will start to learn French? And I just like her very much.” (Evelyne Vernier, President of L’Arche Carrefour, Haiti)
