What is a source of joy for some is a source of fear for others. While the second are worried about change, the first worry about stagnation. Change, be it personal or organisational, is generally welcomed with a strange mix of enthusiasm, fatalism and resistance.
How can it be that change provokes such a large range of reactions? As the articles of this issue show, there is change and change. For Lou, a young boy whom you see on the cover page, learning everyday life’s small gestures means taming a multitude of small changes. Olivier Le Gendre writes about change which is lived by a whole organisation. “Only change is faithful to the initial intuition, to the history of the social system”, says the author. Is that a challenge or a consolation for L’Arche?
Meet Jenny d’Souza who shares her experience with and in L’Arche – not always an easy experience, which shows out of a very personal perspective that life is change. Read as well how the two international coordinators and Jean Vanier embrace change – or rather how they embrace life!
Follow then the current and the former leader of the Federation, Jean-Christophe Pascal and Jean Vanier, in their thoughts about L’Arche and its evolution. Yes, the world is changing, L’Arche continues on its path, but have our preoccupations, worries and fundamental questions really changed?
