International day of disabled persons - 3 December

Since 1992 the UNO wants to focus the world’s attention upon the problems of disabled persons by celebrating the International day of disabled persons.

This year's theme is 'decent work for persons with disabilities'. In order to celebrate this day, the UNO proposes, for example, to plan and organize performances everywhere to showcase - and celebrate - the contributions by persons with disabilities to the societies in which they live and convene exchanges and dialogues focusing on the rich and varied skills, interests and aspirations of persons with disabilities.

The annual observance of the International day of disabled persons aims to promote an understanding of disability issues and mobilize support for the dignity, rights and well-being of persons with disabilities. It also seeks to increase awareness of gains to be derived from the integration of persons with disabilities in every aspect of political, social, economic and cultural life. The theme of the Day is based on the goal of full and equal enjoyment of human rights and participation in society by persons with disabilities.
