Germany

With only three communities, L’Arche in Germany is rather small. German L’Arche communities cannot provide their own workshop because of legal regulations. People with intellectual disabilities therefore attend workshops outside of L’Arche.

L’Arche Tecklenburg near Osnabrück is the oldest of the three communities, founded in 1986. The community is just about to open a third house.

L’Arche Ravensburg followed in early 1998 and has two houses. Since this community welcomed people do not attend a workshop, L’Arche Ravensburg opened a day program for some of the people with a disability.

L’Arche Landsberg is the “baby” of the region. The community opened its doors in 2004 and is a probationary member of the Federation. It is a lively community with eight rather young members with a disability.

L’Arche Germany is in contact with three groups of volunteers who work actively for the benefit of people with an intellectual disability. Each of these groups is assessing their capacity to found a L’Arche community.
