Briefing on the importance of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities

‘Ratify Now’ is an American coalition of disability rights and civil rights activists working to bring about worldwide ratification and implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD). On June 3 they hold a briefing in Capitol Hill on the importance of the UN Convention.

Eric Rosenthal, Executive Director of Mental Disability Rights International and Vice President of the US International Council on Disability (USICD) will join leading US disability rights experts for an important congressional briefing before the House bipartisan Disability Caucus on June 3, 2008. The briefing will outline the importance of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), the need for U.S. Ratification, and what this important conventions means for all Americans, including veterans and troops returning from war.

In addition to Rosenthal, panelists will include the Hon. Richard Thornburgh, former U.S. Attorney General and former U.N Under Secretary General; Judy Heumann, Director of the Department on Disability Services, District of Columbia; Maria Veronica Reina, Executive Director for the Global Partnership on Disability Development at the Burton Blatt Institute at Syracuse University; Michael Stein, Executive Director of the Harvard Project on Disability; Wade Henderson, President and CEO of the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights; Scott Quilty, Program Manager for Survivor Corps; and Anne Somers, Policy Counsel for the American Association of Persons with Disabilities.
