» L'Arche in your region » Asia West-Pacific
The Asia West-Pacific zone stretches from Japan over the Philippines and Australia to New Zealand. A project in Seoul in South Korea and seed groups in Taiwan, Singapore, and Japan, add to the diversity of the zone. Interest in beginning L’Arche is also being expressed by groups and individuals in Malaysia, China, Fiji, Samoa and Mongolia.
Australia, with its four communities and one project, is without a doubt the hub of this Zone. L’Arche Canberra welcomed the first persons with an intellectual disability as early as 1978 and is therefore the oldest community in the zone.
L’Arche Kana-no-ie in Japan joined the Federation in 1991. Located in the Shizuoka Prefecture, not far from Mount Fuji, it provides a home for ten people people with an intellectual disability. 12 external community members come to work in the community’s workshop.
L’Arche Punla, situated some 3000 km further South in the city of Cainta, Philippines, was founded in 1988. Well-integrated in its local environment, it is the only community of the zone to welcome children.
The most Southern community, not only of the zone but of the whole Federation, is situated in Paraparaumu, on the Kapiti coast of New Zealand. L’Arche Kapiti was founded in 1998.

How can I help L’Arche in Asia West Pacific?
1/. By volunteering your time. Assistants are needed in each of our communities. For more information about becoming an assistant, you may contact the community direct.
2/ By volunteering money
Each L'Arche community throughout the world is responsible for its own administration and funding. The communities in Australia, Japan and New Zealand receive government funding, but are reliant also on fund-raising and the gifts of friends. The community in the Philippines is entirely dependent on donations and fundraising.
Gifts and donations are essential for the overall running and development of L'Arche in Asia West Pacific. If you would like to help, please help by sending a donation by cheque or Bank Order either directly to one of the communities, or if you would like to help with the costs of supporting the new and emerging groups in becoming L’Arche, you may send to
